Baltic Cruise (Day 1) Copenhagen - Day 1

We arrived at our hotel about noon, and met up with a couple of our “crew” of 11 that would all be doing the Baltic cruise together. Our neighborhood for this city was the Nyhavn area – itself one of the “must see” sites of Copenhagen. After a take-away lunch we were able to check in and get settled. Another couple of our group showed up, so after a bit of a break and unpacking, we headed off for some dinner at a unique site with many food truck type kiosks setup with some shared seating. This would be our second introduction into the price of things in Copenhagen! We headed back to the hotel, ran into some more of our crew (almost everyone was staying at the same hotel), and sat around the breakfast room visiting and getting caught up. Tomorrow we would get out to see more of the city.

This was "our" square (or the closest one anyway) "Kongens Nytorv", or Kings New Square.

The beautiful old seafaring neighbourhood of Nyhavn, with it's picturesque canal.

The busy street with many restaurants and bars. We had a beer here, but we didn't eat in any of the (expensive) restaurants.

Our hotel - Hotel Bethel - the red brick building in the centre of the picture. It was a great location with friendly staff, a great breakfast, and a dining room that we used several times for our group to gather in.

A shot of the Nyhavn area from the hotel window. It's a very colourful and lively area, you can see why it's one of the favourite spots to visit when in Copenhagen.

This is the "Copenhagen Street Food" fair where we ate dinner. It was very busy, with long lineups. Seems we were lucky with the weather, it had just turned warm, and everyone was out and about enjoying the fresh air. The food fair had just moved to this spot as demolition of the former site began across the canal.

Looking across to the new Opera House on our way back to the hotel. On the right, with the heavy machinery, is where the food fair used to be.
