Alaska - May 2017

In May of 2017 we had the chance to sail on one of our bucket list ships - the elegant Celebrity Solstice. The itinerary was a 7-day Alaska return out of Seattle. We've done Alaska a few times now, and we've sailed to Alaska out of Seattle before. But this last minute opportunity came up, and we decided to go for it. We were lucky with the weather given the fact we would be one of the first ships sailing to Alaska for the season - we had lots of warm weather and sunshine. With us going to ports of call that we had been to before (Ketchikan four times already) we didn't plan any excursions for this trip, just thought to walk around the towns and enjoy the week away on the ship. This won't be an extensive photo journal of the ship, or our trip, but more of a sample of what we saw and did on this, our 5th Alaskan cruise.

Seattle provides a beautiful sail-away through Puget Sound, especially with the sunny blue skies we had that day. I still prefer to sail out of Vancouver and through the Canadian Inside Passage between Vancouver Island and the mainland on our way north. Most sailings out of Seattle stay west of Vancouver Island missing the Strait of Georgia and the narrow passage through Johnstone Strait. But a sailing out of Seattle does provides a stop in Victoria, BC (as the foreign port of call), so it's still a good itinerary.
