This Caribbean-Cuba cruise aboard Royal Caribbean's Empress of the Seas was the third of our three-cruise trip. The first was a Caribbean cruise on NCL, and the second was a Caribbean-Cuba cruise on MSC. This cruise left the same day as we returned from the MSC cruise, so we just walked off one ship, and over to the other. We were lucky that the ships docked right next to each other, so not too far to walk, but we got off the MSC ship about an hour and a half before we were permitted access to the Royal Caribbean terminal. It was a sunny, if somewhat cool, wait outside with the other early birds. And interestingly enough, we weren't the only ones going from the MSC ship to this one for a second visit to Cuba.
The itinerary for this 6-day cruise was supposed to be "Miami, Florida (embarkation) - Key West, Florida - at sea - Cienfuegos, Cuba - George Town, Cayman Islands - at sea" before disembarking back in Miami, Florida. But as we sat in the waiting room, people were talking about going to Havana. After a bit of discussion - it turned out that the itinerary had been changed because of a damaged dock in Key West, and we were heading to Havana instead! It was great to be going back, but we didn't have the chance to line up another guided tour. At least now we had some knowledge of Havana, so we just walked around visiting and re-visiting some of the places we didn't have time for the first time around.
