Caribbean (NCL) - Jan 2019

This cruise was part of a larger plan to spend a few weeks in the warm, sunny Caribbean and escape the winter weather in Canada. We thought if we were going to travel all that way, we might as well make it pay by doing more than just a one-week cruise. So we combined it with 2 other cruises, both of which would have stops in Cuba - somewhere we've been wanting to go for a while.

This journal is about the first of these three cruises. We were on Norwegian Cruise Line's Getaway, a sister ship to the one we were on for our Baltic cruise in May 2018. So we were familiar with the ship, and we were also familiar with most of the ports of call, having been on Caribbean cruises before. The new port of call for us was NCL's private island of "Harvest Caye". This first week gave us the chance to acclimate to the warm weather, relax and soak up the heat and sun.

The second and third cruises would be on different cruise lines. The second cruise was on MSC's Armonia, the third was on Royal Caribbean's Empress of the Seas. Both of these cruises would make calls in Cuba. These visits to Cuba were the jewels in the crown for this trip, and would be where we spent our tourist dollars on guided tours. The other Caribbean stops would be more walking around and exploring on our own.

The links below will take you to posts about each of our days in ports.

Our ship, Norwegian Cruise Line's GETAWAY, docked in Roatan, Honduras.
