Alaska (Day 1) Departing from Seattle

Day 1 of our 7-day Alaska adventure. We sailed out of Seattle heading "North to Alaska". Maybe not the rugged passage that so many took to try and capitalize on the Klondike Gold Rush of the late 1800's, but we were OK with that! It was a beautiful sunny day as we headed off for our week-long Alaskan cruise. Celebrity Solstice is really a beautiful ship, with actual grass lawns topside and a huge live tree floating over the centre atrium.

The Seattle skyline, with the iconic Space Needle on the left.

As we sailed away, people took advantage of the real grass lawns to enjoy the view on a sunny, warm day.

"Solstice uses its Lawn Club to host Concerts on the Lawn and daily movies on the outdoor movie screen on Deck 15."

The two outdoor pools. Both a good size. There is also an indoor pool in the Solarium. The weather was warm enough to attract some swimmers.

High above the atrium floor, this huge fig tree was suspended between decks.

Spanning two decks (decks 10 & 11) the large library overlooks the atrium and the grand foyer, some 7 decks below.
