Alaska (Day 4) Endicott Arm & Juneau, Alaska

Day 4 on Celebrity Solstice began with a sail up Endicott Arm. (Conditions weren't good enough for Tracy Arm.) This gave us the chance to get up close to Dawes Glacier. The captain did a few 360 rotations, so we all got a good look at the glacier - we even saw some glacial calving. Once again, great weather gave us some excellent views. We turned around, and made our way on to Juneau for the afternoon and evening.

As we made our way along Endicott Arm.

Up close to Dawes Glacier early in the morning.

We had a good view of the glacier as it flowed down the valley.

An excursion boat, on their way to get even closer to the glacier. The excursion later joined us after we docked in Juneau.

As we made our way out of Endicott Arm, we passed another glacier high up in the mountains.

The run-off from the glacier as it cascades into the ocean. We were surrounded by the natural beauty of the Alaskan wilderness that makes it this special place.

Our afternoon in Juneau was another warm sunny day! We thought to take the tram up Mt. Roberts, but with several ships in town today, the line-up was too long. So we walked around, taking in the sights and shops, stopping at The Hangar at The Warf pub. It's maybe not much to look at on the outside, but a great view of the harbour from the inside. The classic Red Dog Saloon was also busy, but it looks like a great place for a bit of olde Juneau with its sawdust floor, and honky-tonk piano. Back on board Solstice for a quiet dinner in the main dining room - I guess people were taking advantage of our late night in port.

The Hangar on the Warf pub where we enjoyed the great views and a beer (and some WiFi). "The restaurant honors Southeast Alaska Aviation History. We serve fresh & wild Alaskan seafood of all kinds, hand cut steaks, hearty burgers, pasta, award winning soups & salads, and of course King Crab! Our full-service bar has over 125 beers and 25 taps, with the best selection of locally and regionally brewed Alaskan beers." This was less of a tourist spot and more of a local hangout. It was a nice find for our stop in Juneau.

From our spot at the pub, we could see across the harbour to our ship.

Downtown Juneau with many art and craft shops.

The Red Dog Saloon is a very popular spot to visit when in Juneau.

The Mt. Roberts tram "takes off" from right at the cruise ship dock. We'll have to try for it again next time.
