Alaska (Day 3) Ketchikan, Alaska

Day 3 - our first stop in Alaska was Ketchikan, the southeasternmost city in Alaska. Celebrity Solstice berthed right by the historic downtown area. And just a short walk to the famous, picturesque Creek Street. We did a walk about the town, with a stop at Fat Stan's for a beer and a bit of WiFi. Despite their average 300 days of rain, we were so lucky to enjoy a warm (hot) sunny day. Perfect for sunbathing by the pool onboard in the afternoon.

Our ship, Celebrity Solstice, docked right in the heart of the old town portion of Ketchikan.

"Welcome to Alaska's 1st City, Ketchikan, The Salmon Capital of the World." While we stayed in the area close to the cruise dock, on previous trips we've ventured farther out of town, along Ketchikan Creek to see the salmon and to visit the Totem Heritage Center.

Each of the posts for the dock are decorated with some unique ceramic sculptures.

As we strolled along Creek Street. "The area near the mouth of Ketchikan Creek later earned Ketchikan a measure of infamy during the first half of the 20th century for a red-light district known as Creek Street, with brothels aligned on either side of the creek." While one of the buildings is a museum about the era (Dolly's House Museum & Gift Shop) the other buildings are more tourist gift shops.

We had such great weather this day, that back onboard people were sunbathing in the warm sun.

Dinner at Tuscan Grille onboard was the perfect end to our day in Ketchikan. Located at the back of Celebrity Solstice, with panoramic views as we sailed away (the picture does not do it justice). Food was awesome - we enjoyed a 5 course meal and all the food was excellent. Meant to take pictures of it all, but as soon as it was on the table we dug in, forgetting the pics. Trust me, it was great. Desert was accompanied by orcas swimming by. Well worth it - we were stuffed and happy.

Antipasti to start. A fine selection of meats and cheese.

Calamari. So good!

My 9oz filet mignon with polenta fries and spinach.

The panoramic view from our tableside window as we left Ketchikan.
