Danube River Cruise (Day 3) - Nuremberg, Germany (1st Day)

A 2 hour train ride from Frankfurt brought us to Nuremberg, where we would board our ship. All I knew about Nuremberg was it was the location of the Nuremberg Trials. But we found it to be a beautiful town with some charming areas. We stowed our luggage, and set out to do a bit of shopping in the old town before heading to the ship. (The weather was a bit colder than anticipated, and my quick packing job left out a few items.)

Entering through one of the remaining corners of the medieval city wall we came upon some classic European shopping streets with old buildings sporting modern shops. Walked around for a few hours, bought some warm sweaters, and sampled the Nuremberg Sausages. Then we made our way to the cruise ship. We were sailing on Scenic° Luxury Cruises and Tours, and our ship Scenic° Opal is one of their newer "Space Ships". Very nicely finished. We spent the rest of the day getting settled in, learning about our trip ahead, eating and drinking. The ship remained docked overnight, so we would have another day to explore Nuremberg.

Entering the old town through the old city wall.

Inside the wall, with some old (tourist) shops.

The streets leading to the main shopping area.

A very busy pedestrian shopping street.

The old bell tower – now an entrance to a metro station.

A charming fountain in the middle of the shopping plaza. Who doesn't enjoy a placid scene of two skeletons trying to murder each other on the back of a huge iguana like sea-creature? This was just part of it – there were many other strange scenes like this.

Our last look at this area of Nuremberg before we picked up our luggage, and made our way to the cruise ship.
