Transatlantic (Day 12) La Palma, Canary Islands

After 7 days at sea - our first port of call was La Palma, Canary Islands. An easy walk off the ship, and a stroll through the small town. We had a sunny day for our walk through the pedestrian street, filled with shops and restaurants, through to the other side of town. Up a hill for some great views, then back to a restaurant for an alfresco glass of Sangria. Did a little shopping, then headed back to the ship for dinner. Lovely port of call, very friendly and picturesque. A place we hadn't experienced before (like most of the locations on this trip) and we enjoyed the walk without passing the same thing every few minutes...unlike our promenade deck walks! ;)

The main shopping street of La Palma.

The main church plaza along the way.

The shopping street was one street back from the waterfront, providing it with protection from the winds.

The main shopping street, with it's brightly painted buildings.

Up the hill gave us a good view of the town. Under the old ship in the foreground was a naval museum. Our (more modern) ship is in the far background.

The large main beach was a black sand beach - the island being a volcanic island.

The town's stately looking post office, with some apartments and an old chapel up the hill.
