Caribbean - NCL (Day 1) Miami - Embarkation

For this (and the other cruises) we were leaving out of Miami, Florida. We had a long overnight flight from Vancouver and were glad to have arrived the day before our cruise (always a good idea) to recover from our fatigue and jet-lag. We stayed in an Airport Hotel that was a great value, offering us both an airport shuttle and also a transfer to the cruise port. There were a lot of guests doing the same thing.

This is where we ate the night we landed. It only sets up in the evening, but was just a few steps from the hotel (and next to the freeway). Monster Bite served up some excellent burgers, and it was great to be sitting outside in the warm air eating our freshly made burgers.

We embarked on the first of our three back-to-back-to-back cruises on a sunny, warm day - so different from the cold weather we left behind at home.

The top deck of the Getaway, with the skyline in the background. There were some pretty impressive waterslides and a Ropes Course with over 40 elements. We tried neither, but we did try out the loungers on several occasions.

Ahead of us was a much larger ship, Royal Caribbean's Allure of the Seas. Allure is currently the 3rd largest cruise ship at sea, bested only by her sisters Harmony of the Seas and the new, slightly larger, Symphony of the Seas.

We had a view of South Beach as we headed out to sea. Great beach weather this day.

Miami is a busy port, and this day was no exception. One of the ships we were going to be taking later on, Royal Caribbean's Empress the Seas, was also in port. As we sailed out, we looked back to see little Empress of the Seas being chased out by the far larger Allure of the Seas.
