Caribbean - NCL (Day 4) Harvest Caye, Belize

This port of call was at Norwegian Cruise Line's private island "Harvest Caye" off the coast of Belize. Many cruise lines now have their own islands in the Caribbean, giving them the opportunity to capitalize on land excursions. This was our first experience on one of these cruise line islands, so it was interesting to see what they had to offer. We let the crowds head off at the first call, then when things quieted down, we made our way for a walk around the island. There was just our ship at the island this day, though I'm not sure if there are ever more. There was plenty of room for lots of people.

Harvest Caye, from the top deck of the cruise ship. They've built a pier with a covered walkway so we didn't have to tender ashore.

Various activities, shops, restaurants and a huge pool.

A cute wood sculpture of a manatee sitting on a turtle.

The "Wildlife Experience" was...brief. Maybe that's OK - we don't need to see more caged animals.

The lagoon side of the island, with canoes, paddleboards and various other water toys.

The lighthouse is the start of their zipline course.

A ropes course provided another activity for your day "ashore".

A paddle boat and a stand-up paddleboard cruising along the lagoon area.

Most of the zipline course, with 3 (of the 4) lines and a rope bridge.

Part of the zipline experience is this rope bridge. We asked about the price of the zipline, but felt it was kind of overpriced for what you got. Although it was well manned by attendants at every post, and the last zipline is a superman-style line that crosses the island.

Lots of covered and open loungers along the wide, long beach.

There is a waterpark feature for the younger kids.

A huge 15,000 square foot pool provides plenty of room for everyone, and at the restaurant end was a swim-up bar.

One of the restaurants where you can grab a meal and a drink. All the restaurants were for a fee, and cash was required - no charging to your onboard account here.

A great expanse of beach provides for lots of room for everyone.

The beach side of the island, with our ship waiting in the background. It was nice to get out and walk around and the many activities would have been a nice diversion for families. Lots of people were enjoying both the ocean and the pool (with it's swim-up bar).
